What catches people out
- 35 x 45 mm for passports, OCI cards and most visa applications.
- US visa applications from India follow the US 51 x 51 mm square standard instead, which trips people up constantly.
- Plain white background with no border.
- The face should occupy roughly 70–80% of the frame.
Requirements are set by Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India and they change. Confirm the current rules with them before printing — this page is a reference, not an approval.
