What catches people out

  • 50 x 70 mm — the largest of the common standards, and used by almost nobody else.
  • Head height chin to crown must be 31–36 mm.
  • The photographer must stamp or write their name, address and the date taken on the back of one photo. No other major country requires this.
  • Photos must be taken by a commercial photographer, not at home.
  • Two identical photos are required.

Requirements are set by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada and they change. Confirm the current rules with them before printing — this page is a reference, not an approval.
